Quick answer: Start with Korail’s official English booking site. Regular tickets are currently scheduled to open at 07:00 Korea Standard Time two months before departure, but special holiday sales and operational notices can differ. Confirm availability for your exact date on the official site.
1. Where should you book?
For most visitors, the official Korail website is the clearest place to check train times, departure stations, ticket conditions and the total fare. Use the official result as your reference even if you later compare another booking platform.
| Booking option | Useful for | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Official Korail website | Checking the operator’s timetable, fare and ticket conditions | Departure station, date, passenger details, payment confirmation and refund rules |
| KORAIL+ app | Managing a booking on a phone when the app supports your needs | Language, account or verification steps, and how to open the live ticket |
| Third-party travel platform | Comparing a bundled offer or using a platform you already know | Final price, exact train or voucher type, seat assignment, exchange/refund terms and whether a separate redemption step is required |
Third-party services are not interchangeable, and their available routes or ticket formats can change. Do not assume that a voucher is itself a valid boarding ticket unless the instructions explicitly say so.

2. When do KTX tickets go on sale?
Korail’s regular ticket booking window was extended to two months before departure from October 1, 2026, with sales scheduled to open at 07:00 KST. Some older guides and legacy pages may still show the previous one-month window. Special holiday periods can use separate sale schedules, and system notices may affect availability, so check the live search and current notices on Korail’s official site.
If your date is not available yet, check the official notice and return when the booking window opens. If the train you want is sold out, search nearby departure times and read the actual options shown by Korail rather than assuming every train on the route is full.
Before paying: verify the travel date, number of passengers, departure and arrival stations, train time, passenger names where requested, and the final fare. Keep the confirmation details until your journey is complete.
3. Check the departure station carefully
Do not plan your trip around the phrase “Seoul to Busan” alone. Your ticket identifies the actual departure station and train. Read the station name on the confirmed booking, then check how long it takes to reach that station from your hotel or airport connection.
Most Seoul–Busan itineraries are associated with Seoul Station, but services and departure points can vary. Use the station printed on your ticket, not an assumption based on the destination.
4. What to know before boarding
- Keep a valid ticket ready. Open the ticket in the official service or follow the issuing platform’s exact instructions. A booking receipt or voucher may not be the same as the boarding ticket.
- Check the train number and seat. Match the train number, departure time, car and seat shown on your ticket before boarding.
- Arrive with a buffer. Give yourself time to navigate the station, find the platform information and handle luggage. Large stations can be busy.
- Follow station displays. Platform and boarding information can change; use the live station boards and announcements.
5. Travelling with luggage
Small bags may fit on overhead racks, while larger suitcases may need a designated luggage rack or another suitable space in the carriage. Layout and available space can vary by train and car, so avoid relying on a specific storage location being empty.
- Keep valuables, passports, medication and essentials with you.
- Choose a bag you can lift and move safely, and do not block doors, aisles or emergency equipment.
- If you have several large cases, allow extra time to board and check whether your booking or travel group needs a different arrangement.
6. If payment does not work
If an overseas card is declined, re-check the card details and any verification prompt, then follow the payment provider’s instructions. You can compare the official site with another booking channel, but review the final fare and change/refund conditions before paying twice. Confirm whether the first attempt actually failed before making a second booking.
7. After you arrive at Busan Station
Decide how you will continue from the station before departure day. If your accommodation is not ready, you may want to compare luggage storage or delivery options. Storage means you return to the same location to collect your bags; delivery is a separate service with its own booking conditions.
